As SC State students returned to campus on August 10 to begin the new school year, it is clear that the new Turner Hall academic building has made great progress since May.

In an update this week, the university says crews have completed the steel structure or framework and are now pouring concrete for each floor.
The $54.7 million 94,000-square-foot building is scheduled to open next year, hopefully in time for the start of the 2027-2028 school year.
The company shared a video on Instagram showing the ceremonial event, which included officials signing the beam.
The new Turner Hall will house general education courses, classes in the College of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences (which includes our Communications Program) and modern instructional spaces for collaborative and experiential learning, according to the university.
The original Turner Hall is still in use but is showing its age. The quad structure with four wings was built from 1928 to 1954.
Mold on the walls in one classroom needed to be dealt with right away as classes began this week. A work crew has since removed the mold and painted the walls.
Leaking ceilings and windows have been a problem on some floors for years now. It is unclear if and how the old building will be used once new Turner Hall opens. Demolition is a possibility, according to the school.
The new classroom building is one of several new construction projects on campus. Thank you President Conyers, school leadership, Harper General Contractors, and the state legislature for these improvements!
