What Does Your Covid Mask Say About You?

Yes, inquiring minds want to know! What does your Covid prevention facemask say about you?

The facemasks we have to wear (again argh!) this semester to our SC State classes, do you put much thought into it? Are you styling some, or are you content with the plain Jane ones? Here's what some Bulldogs have to say on this matter.

Benjamin Gadson is a junior communications major from Fairfax, S.C. (near Allendale). He's a musical guy and is a member of the prestigious Phi Mu Alpha fraternity, "the world's oldest and largest secret national fraternal society in music," according to its website.  The SC State chapter is called Nu Iota SC State.

On this day Ben is wearing a Phi Mu Alpha shirt and he says the harp on his facemask is a symbol of his fraternity. Ben is in SC State's band, The Marching 101.  His instrument is the euphonium. I have never heard of that, so asked Ben what it is. "It's a member of the low brass family," he says. "It's sort of like a fat trumpet."

Click here for Ben's comments about his special musical mask.

Yours truly, Patrick Harwood, daily dons a mask I really like. It's from Gold's Gym in North Charleston where I am a member.

I have several other masks. Here's why this one is my favorite. Listen here.

Alexander "Ace" Conyers, a junior communications major from Northern Virginia, has a pretty chill view about the mask situation. He's fine with the regular, no-frills blue and black ones like he has on in this photo.

Here's Ace.

Andrea Milford-Williams, the Communications Program's administrator for special events and professional relations, is a proud Bulldog and her mask shows that with its "Bulldog Strong" message.

She holds two degrees from SC State, a bachelor's and master's, and her daughter is an alumna of the university.

Ms. Williams comments about her fine facemask.

Kayla Brisbon is a sophomore communications major from Richmond, Va. She is also an anchor and reporter on BNN, the school's Bulldog News Now video program.

On this day she is wearing an attractive black and white mask. She says she wears a variety of masks.

As an aside, I used Soundcloud to post these audio clips. Soundcloud is not really a platform for editing and mixing sound such as music. Soundcloud is more for streaming and sharing audio. In class, we will use Adobe Audition for production purposes. But we will use Soundcloud for this mask posting project.

I did find a way in Soundcloud to edit the interview with Ben Gadson. See the image. Here's how: after bringing the full interview into Soundcloud, go to Share then play the clip to where you want it to begin. Check the plus box at the bottom of this image, then pause the clip where you want it to begin.

So what I did was edit out my asking Ben's name and spelling of it, and my question.  That is all I wanted to do and Soundcloud enabled me to do so.
